$almoney Talks: £100 million buys off @NELCouncil to turn blind eye to wildlife, welfare & community concerns over the UK's largest salmon farm next to Grimsby Town Football Club? @officialgtfc @BBCLookEast @RadioHumberside @thelincolnite @GrimsbyLive @MartinVickers @lia_nici pic.twitter.com/y5ytmOOzUg

The legitimate concerns of locals and animal welfare groups are being shamefully disregarded as North East Lincolnshire Council recommends approval of a 5,000 tonne salmon farm off Grimsby docks next to residential housing in Cleethorpes and Grimsby Town Football Club on the Humber Estuary. A planning meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday (29 November 2023) where councillors are likely to ignore local concerns about wildlife, welfare, flooding, noise, smells and the environment - read the planning document recommeding approval online here.
The planning recommendation by North East Lincolnshire Council dismissed concerns raised by local residents as well as Compassion in World Farming:
Welfare concerns raised by the 5,000 tonne super-sized salmon farm were disregarded completely by North East Lincolnshire Council:
"Moral concerns over fish farming are not considered as material planning considerations, with the proposal as such likened to intensive livestock units" @NELCouncil @GrimsbyLive https://t.co/1YUBCFuUxi pic.twitter.com/4wt1jm7lCI

It seems the North East Lincolnshire Council is happy for the welfare nightmare of salmon farming to expand in England - as it has done all over the world. Nothing to see here councillors.
The Grimsby Telegraph reported (24 November 2023):
"This land that you intend to build on is used by lots of wildlife so please tell me where they are supposed to live. This has been their home for many, many years," one Cleethorpes woman objecting commented https://t.co/1YUBCFuUxi

BBC Radio Humberside featured the issue in May 2023 with local residents and Animal Equality speaking out against the super-sized proposal which, if approved, would be the UK's largest salmon farm (5,000 tonnes is bigger in size than any salmon farm in Scotland):
On Wednesday (29 November) it seems clear that @NELCouncil will give the green light to the UK's largest salmon farm next to Grimsby Town Football Club - Harry Haddock, local residents & animal rights groups are fished off! @andycomfort @looknorthBBC @thelincolnite https://t.co/iLTePZkwnJ

Data published by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency in September 2023 shows the largest salmon farms currently operating in Scotland:
Named & Shamed: the largest salmon farms in Scotland - soon to be surpassed by a super-sized 5,000 tonne monstrosity next to Grimsby Town Football Club! @officialgtfc @NELCouncil @GrimsbyLive @BBCLookEast @thelincolnite @looknorthBBC @RadioHumberside https://t.co/y5fhxpC0ij pic.twitter.com/v0ZV76DyQg

Anybody who has watched Netflix's 'Seaspiracy' will be all too aware of the huge disease, mortality, welfare and environmental problems caused by salmon farming in Scotland:
No wonder then that residents living near the proposed 5,000 tonne salmon farm monstrosity in Grimsby/Cleethorpes are outraged. John Nelson of Oliver Street in Cleethorpes wrote to North East Lincolnshire Council in objection on 14 March 2023:
“I oppose the building of a big factory taking away land which is occupied by wildlife,” wrote Linda Calvert of Daubney St in Cleethorpes in an objection filed with North East Lincolnshire Council in January 2023. “It will be noisy and is too near housing which will cause disturbance to the people living along Harrington Street and Daubney and Barcroft Street.”
Peter Radcliffe of Horncastle wrote in objection on 20 March 2023:
Christine Evans of Harrington Street in Cleethorpes wrote in objection on 17 March 2023:
Rachael Penn-Smith of Primrose Way in Cleethorpes wrote in objection on 16 March 2023:
“Strongly object to a salmon farm being built on that land,” wrote Kim Harvey of Manchester St in Cleethorpes in an objection filed with North East Lincolnshire Council in January 2023. “Records going back 40 years of all the wild life flowers migration of birds, deer, foxes, insects. Also a flood plain. To close to houses apart from the smell and all the crap that will end up being pumped in the sea. The north wall walkway should be a route to the docks but met with a locked gate. The docks is falling apart. Big objections from many people. Keep your back handers to the pocket park project and leave the area alone!”
“Deer graze on the proposed salmon farm site and seals have been seen on the slipway to Cleethorpes beach,” said resident Lynn Sayles who is opposed to an industrial salmon farm on her doorstep.
“Discharging huge amounts of effluents into the sea will undoubtedly impact on marine wildlife and beach tourism. Grimsby may have a fishy heritage but it is simply no place to locate a stinky salmon farm. AquaCultured should listen to local residents – as well as the foxes, birds, hedgehogs and wildflowers living on the proposed site - and ‘fish off’. North East Lincolnshire Council should be protecting the area as a wildlife park not promoting industrial fish farming.”
There has been a wave of opposition against the fishy proposal by Aquacultured Seafood Ltd since it was first announced publicly in February 2023:
Instead of pocketing the stinky $almoney without asking any difficult questions - or without even ordering an Environmental Impact Assessment - councillors should follow the $almoney.
The Ferret reported in March 2023:
➡️NEW: A former Scottish salmon farming boss accused of spying on a key critic of the industry is among the directors of a firm aiming to build the UK’s largest fish farm in Grimsby. 🧵https://t.co/bs36VPSjGv

Corin Smith told The Ferret he would be “very concerned” about any project involving Anderson and warned Grimsby residents that he would not touch the people behind the application “with a barge pole” @FerretScot https://t.co/a6qlFacrLc @officialgtfc @GrimsbyLive @NELCouncil

In a filing with Companies House in July 2023, Craig Anderson cannot even get his name straight.
North East Lincolnshire Council has been so blinded by the prospect of £100 million in investment to bother even asking where all the $almoney comes from. Salmon Business reported (22 November 2023):
