'Case Information' slipped out by the Scottish Government just before Xmas on 22 December 2022 is worth a second look if, like me, you have a healthy scepticism about how government agencies love to bury bad news and protect salmon farming from public scrutiny.

In normal circumstances, the Fish Health Inspectorate detail which updates have been carried out but the update in December 2022 omitted this crucial piece of information (without the dates of updates it is impossible to track which new cases have been uploaded).
When pressed by $camon $cotland, the Scottish Government's Neil Purvis explained: "There were updates to May, June, August and September of 2022, as well as July and September 2021 and May, June, July, August and December 2020". 'Case Information' uploaded on 22 December 2022 includes details an inspection in September 2021 (Case 2021-0258) of West Strome salmon farm in Loch Carron operated by The Scottish Salmon Company (renamed Bakkafrost Scotland in June 2022):
"Discussed biosecurity issues with compromised brail and improvements were indicated," stated the Fish Health Inspectorate report.
The Fish Health Inspectorate report (Case 2021-0258) detailed how biosecurity procedures had not been implemented citing how "large biomass mortality removal procedures allowed a breach of mortality containment":
A Fish Health Inspectorate Visit Report dated 23 November 2021 detailed how biosecurity measures were "inadequately implemented" with a separate letter issued "regarding this issue" ($camon $cotland has requested this information via FOI).
The Fish Health Inspectorate Visit Report dated 23 November 2021 detailed Vibrio as well as Salmon Gill Poxvirus, Neoparamoeba perurans and Paranucelospora theriodion:
In September 2021, Scottish Salmon Watch published shocking video footage of mort disposal at Bakkafrost's salmon farm at West Strome in Loch Carron - including evidence of disease-ridden salmon morts falling into the water near the salmon farm (Loch Carron is a Marine Protected Area):

Earlier this month (16 January 2023), Animal Equality published video footage of mort disposal at Bakkafrost's Meall Mhor salmon farm in Loch Fyne:
In October 2022, $camon $cotland reported on breaches of biosecurity at Mowi and Loch Duart:
