Why does the @SoilAssociation certify salmon farms as 'organic'? @SoilAssocScot @CookeScotland @cookeseafood pic.twitter.com/7FTcnt01zG
A damning inspection report recently published by the Scottish Government's Fish Health Inspectorate highlights the gruesome nature of Cooke Aquaculture - a company shamefully certified by the Soil Association as "organic" and accredited as 'welfare friendly' via RSPCA Assured.
In what warped world can these fish be truly marketed as "responsibly farmed" and "responsibly sourced"?

Here's excerpts from the Scottish Government's Fish Health Inspectorate report from an inspection of Cooke Aquaculture's Ouseness salmon farm off Westray in the Orkney Islands in May 2022 detailing skin trauma, fungus, bacterial ulceration, infectious diseases and over 40,000 mortalities:

A Marine Scotland Fish Health Inspectorate Visit Report dated 16 June 2022 details increased mortality and fish welfare problems at Cooke's RSPCA Assured 'organic' salmon farm at Ouseness off Westray in the Orkney Islands:
77,095 morts at Ouseness salmon farm have been reported by Cooke Aquaculture to the Scottish Government's Fish Health Inspectorate in 2022 via six 'Mortality Event Reports' in April and May:

Mort data published for May 2022 by Salmon Scotland shows that Cooke's RSPCA Assured and 'organic' salmon farm at Ouseness had the highest monthly mortality rate of all Cooke sites with 5.7% attributed to bacterial disease:
The Soil Association shamefully certifies ca. a dozen Cooke Aquaculture facilities including Westray and East of Skelwick (off Westray):
Cooke's Ouseness salmon farm off Westray is licensed to discharge toxic chemicals despite being certified as 'organic':
Cooke's further expansion plans off Papa Westray in the Orkney Islands are being opposed by the Scottish Greens who have set up a petition to stop the East Moclett salmon farm:
Locals already have to work year-round clearing salmon farm waste and debris from their beaches and shores. They don’t want to lose their last stretch of shoreline where they can swim or enjoy the beach without noise and pollution! https://t.co/adaN2Waf9w @scotgp @OrkneyCouncil

Why are Cooke Aquaculture Scot. surprised we don’t want a 7th site on the shores of Papa Westray?
Potentially increasing the cumulative fish faeces and effluent in the local marine environment, equivalent to 116,952 people every day! https://t.co/plP6McXIxG
In view of the ugly face of Cooke Aquaculture it is not surprising that people all around the world are rising up in opposition.
