'Scamon Scotland' officially launched - we're part of a global resistance movement against toxic salmon farming! https://t.co/EyphrohWZG

Please join the boycott of Scottish salmon - take the pledge not to eat farmed salmon today!
"After four years campaigning with Scottish Salmon Watch, I'm delighted to have been poached by Scamon Scotland," said Don Staniford, the new Director of Scamon Scotland. "The name may be different but we'll be exposing the same environmental and welfare problems on salmon farms across Scotland. We want to hear from supporters with ideas for future investigations and are particularly keen to hear from whistleblowers working inside the salmon farming industry. Scamon Scotland will continue to lift the lid on toxic chemicals, mass mortalities, welfare problems, escapes, marine mammal deaths, seal shooting, infectious diseases and lice infestations plaguing salmon farms."
In November 2021 (just in time for COP26 in Glasgow), the lobby group for foreign-owned salmon farming companies operating in Scotland changed their name from the Scottish Salmon Producers Organisaton to Salmon Scotland.
Thanks to all attendees from our panel discussion & sustainability charter event yesterday at #cop26 . It was great to get people together to discuss some of the key issues facing our sector. In February 2019, Scottish Salmon Watch and The Ferret exposed how 99% of so-called 'Scottish' salmon is actually foreign owned!!!
In November 2020, Scottish Salmon Watch wrote to the Norwegian Government (as shareholder in ca. 80% of the 'Scottish' salmon farming industry) asking it to divest from the unethical and irresponsible salmon farming companies it held shares in (Mowi, Scottish Sea Farms, Grieg Seafood and The Scottish Salmon Company):
Did you know that the Norwegian Government's Pension Fund (derived from Norway's oil revenues) is the largest or 2nd largest shareholder in companies which account for 80% of 'Scottish' salmon farming? @Folketrygdfond @MowiScotlandLtd @salmon_scottish https://t.co/4P1m3g2CvT pic.twitter.com/Sl6bFlcwaK

Scamon Scotland's rebrand is a response to Salmon Scotland's shameless greenwashing and comes after a public consultation launched last week for a new logo - here's some other logo designs sent in by supporters:
"Scottish salmon is a scam, sham and consumer con," continued Staniford (an award-winning campaigner and author of 'Silent Spring of the Sea' as well as the forthcoming report 'Greenwashing Scottish Salmon'). "A staggering 99% of so-called 'Scottish' salmon is controlled/owned by seven foreign companies - Norwegian giant Mowi (known as Marine Harvest until 2019), Scottish Sea Farms (real name Norskott Havbruk, co-owned by Norway's SalMar and Leroy), The Scottish Salmon Company (a subsidiary of Norwegian/Faroese-owned Bakkafrost), Grieg Seafood (bought by Scottish Sea Farms in 2021), Canadian-owned Cooke Aquaculture, US-owned Loch Duart and newcomer 'Organic' Sea Harvest (owned by Dutch/Norwegian/Canadian investors). All the Scottish salmon on sale in UK supermarkets is sourced from factory feedlots where tens of thousands of fish are crammed in diseased and lice-infested conditions. The notion that salmon leaps up waterfalls onto people's plates is a myth - just like so-called 'sustainable' Scottish salmon."

Inside Scottish Salmon Feedlots reported last month (24 January 2022):
Scamon Scotland will contiue to call out companies guilty of false marketing and deceptive advertising. In November 2021, Scottish Salmon Watch filed complaints against supermarkets selling "responsibly farmed" and "responsibly sourced" Scottish salmon with advertising and trading standards.

Scamon Scotland (like Scottish Salmon Watch, the Global Alliance Against Industrial Aquaculture, Superheroes 4 Salmon, Salmon Are Sacred and The Salmon Farm Protest Group before it) believes in steering away from BINGOs (Big Industrial NGOs) and shares the "strategically nimble" view of salmon hero Alexandra Morton (author of 'Not On My Watch'):
Alexandra Morton: "I try to be strategically nimble so that I can respond to the shape & direction of the wave. I have intentionally kept my voice free from big institutions so the opposition can’t find & cut off my supply line" https://t.co/K324ELx9pb @alex4salmon @PenguinBooks

I also take inspiration from Booker Prize-winning author Richard Flanagan's book 'Toxic' - published last year by Penguin - and plan to publish a Scottish edition later this year.

Please remember that we can all make a difference - by boycotting Scottish salmon. Don't forget to take the pledge not to eat toxic farmed salmon!
Watch out soon for a new report from Scamon Scotland - "Greenwashing Scottish Salmon" - which exposes the scam of 'organic', RSPCA Assured, Label Rouge and ASC's "farmed responsibly" salmon!
Todday (1 February 2022), Scamon Scotland sent a letter to Scottish Ministers calling for an end to the dirty business of 'cleaner fish' use on salmon farms across Scotland.
Why is @scotgov turning a blind eye to welfare abuse of 'cleaner fish' on salmon farms? @ScotlandSalmon @MowiScotlandLtd @salmon_scottish @scotseafarms https://t.co/Rt1GYWAoxV
