Animal Concern is calling on celebrity chef Rick Stein to stop sourcing farmed salmon from the bloody waters of the Faroe Islands - please write to Rick Stein online here
How can @Rick_Stein justify sourcing farmed salmon from a country like the Faroes with such an appalling welfare record? Surely @RickSteinRest should boycott Faroese seafood? Does your farmed salmon supplier condone or condemn the Grind? https://t.co/3cBl6eOZQb @RickSteinSchool
— Don Staniford (@TheGAAIA) September 20, 2021
Rick Stein's online shop states that "the salmon is sourced from two salmon farms in the Faroe Islands".
Shame on Rick Stein and Severn & Wye Smokery sourcing farmed salmon from the Faroes - please boycott @Rick_Stein @RickSteinRest @BannistersHotel @SteinWinchester @RickSteinSchool @SevernWye https://t.co/vMjWE0g6uC

"Rick Stein shamefully promotes Faroese farmed salmon," said Don Staniford, Campaign Manger for Animal Concern, during a protest outside a Rick Stein promotional event on the Wirral (22 September 2021). "There are 101 reasons not to eat farmed salmon whether it's from Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Chile, Australia, Norway or the Faroes. If you've seen the TV footage and newspaper coverage of the slaughter in the 'Grind', you've got the blood of thousands of whales and dolphins on your hands if you're buying Faroese farmed salmon. Don't put it on your plate, don't support this barbaric, horrific industry. Take the pledge not to eat farmed salmon. Don't buy Faroese seafood - it's a bad choice for animal welfare."
"We're calling on people to boycott Faroese food," continued Don Staniford, Campaign Manger for Animal Concern. "Please sign a petition asking the Government to stop Faroese food flooding into the UK and tell the Faroese Government that the slaughter of whales and dolphins via the 'Grind' is not to be tolerates in a humane society. Boycott 'Frankenstein' salmon!"
Pressure is building against sourcing seafood from the Faroes with a petition to the UK Government already attracting over 15,000 signatures in a few days of being launched by Dominic Dyer.
Government Petition to suspend Trade Agreement Faroe Islands now heading to 15,000. I will be in contact Ministers today on initial response. Faroes now export over £500 million fish & shellfish to UK 25% global trade. They cannot afford lose this trade https://t.co/BNxTqaUdGn pic.twitter.com/2s2tSHCqej

Dominic Dyer makes a powerful case for sanctions against the Faroes in an article in Mail+ (22 September 2021).
"No whales or dolphins should be brutally slaughtered in the Faroe Islands to put cod and farmed salmon on our supermarket shelves" @domdyer70 https://t.co/YvK14uoAB2

Whilst Rick Stein's salmon supplier remains silent, Faroese salmon farmer Bakkafrost (owner of The Scottish Salmon Company) has publicly condemned the slaughter of dolphins in the Faroes.
This is the very brief statement from the CEO of #Bakkafrost (largest seafood exporter on #FaroeIslands) regarding the massacre of 1428 Atlantic White-Sided Dolphins at Skálabotnur beach on Sunday 12 September 2021, and my response to it. Hyprocrisy @salmon_scottish - Bakkafrost (Faroese owners of 'Scottish' Salmon Co) condemn slaughter of 1,500 dolphins as “totally unacceptable” yet condone welfare abuse of millions of farmed salmon & use of noisy ADDs which harm cetaceans!https://t.co/fI6y3IPk8W @ClydePorpoise
