The toxic neonicotinoid Imidacloprid (banned for use in terrestrial farming in Europe in 2018) is collared by a legal petition in US - are Norwegian investors in Ectosan Vet/BMK08/D-10 Aquatic Blast feeling hot under the collar? https://t.co/koxcWkwoHW @WeAreBenchmark @FerdOwner pic.twitter.com/GVfcAYnFEn

A legal petition to be published for public inspection by the US Environmental Protection Agency on Monday (12 July 2021) should have Benchmark - the Norwegian-owned company who has been caught lobbying the Scottish Environment Protection Agency to use Imidicaloprid in salmon farming in Scotland - feeling a little hot under the collar.
The legal petition - to be officially published on Monday (12 July 2021) - demands the cancellation of the Imidacloprid-based insecticide product Seresto (a pet collar linked to almost 1,700 pets):
The legal petition - filed by the Center for Biological Diversity in April 2021 - cites the scientific case against Imidacloprid:
The petition makes for uncomfortable reading for the toxic team behind the promotion of Imidacloprid (a toxic neonicotinoid banned for use in terrestrial agriculture in 2018) in salmon farming and certainly for the millions of fish which may be subjected to such toxic treatment.
Center for Biological Diversity reported in April that pet collars containing Imidacloprid are subject to a legal petition following the deaths of 1,700 pets - how many fish will be killed by the use of BMK08/Ectosan/D-10 Aquatic Blast in salmon farming? https://t.co/YFrjjN4Dl4 pic.twitter.com/iQl1HRkWFr

Scottish Salmon Watch reported yesterday (9 July 2021):
The launch of a 'new weapon against sea lice' - the banned neonicotinoid Imidacloprid marketed as Ectosan Vet (BMK08) & D-10 Aquatic Blast - threatens a Silent Spring of the Sea & new war against aquatic life https://t.co/rTSpUTuL4r @WeAreBenchmark @FerdOwner @ScottishEPA pic.twitter.com/LL3QxJZJUL

A scientific paper published last month raises alarm bells just like Rachel Carson did in 1962.
An Editorial arguing the case against the use of Imidacloprid in salmon farming authored by Professor Dave Goulson of the University of Sussex was published in the August 2020 issue of British Wildlife.

Science reported in November 2019:
Scottish Salmon Watch summarized the scientific evidence against the use of Imidacloprid in June 2020.
"Imidacloprid has been banned from use by farmers because of the widespread environmental harm it caused" @DaveGoulson "It would be the height of foolishness to start using this potent, broad-spectrum neurotoxin in salmon farming" https://t.co/nqV1mv7CAY @WeAreBenchmark pic.twitter.com/8V15mLltzr

The weight of scientific evidence against Imidacloprid keeps on building - whether it is in relation to the impact on fish as this scientific paper published in March 2021 reports.
Or the impact on shellfish as this scientific paper published in August 2020 reports.
And this scientific paper published in November 2020.
And another scientific paper published in November 2020.
Scientific research published in September 2020 reported the impact of Imidacloprid on flies.
Scottish Salmon Watch reported last month (29 June 2021):

The Center for Biological Diversity reported in April 2021 that pet collars containing Imidacloprid are subject to a legal petition in the United States following the deaths of nearly 1,700 pets:
Breaking: we just petitioned EPA to cancel its registration of Seresto flea collars. EPA ignored 75,000 incident reports, including 1700 reports of deaths resulting from the collar. Enough is enough. #RecallSerestoCollars https://t.co/Ih1GuRZFEb

USA Today reported (8 April 2021):
The article included:
And:
Reuters reported in May 2021 that Bayer's appeal on the EU ban on Imidacloprid had died a death in the courts.
Professor Dave Goulson of the University of Sussex - author of the forthcoming 'Silent Earth' - told The Guardian (27 May 2021):
"It’s like the wild west" said @DaveGoulson "These chemicals are incredibly poisonous – the novichok for insects. It takes a billionth of a gram to harm aquatic life, so even tiny traces would have major impacts on marine life" @guardian @WeAreBenchmark https://t.co/OzouYaXCEk

It seems that Benchmark's plans to unleash 'Novichok for insects' on salmon farming could be a graveyard for investors as well as nature.

Opposition from the European Parliament - who voted last month against the use of Imidacloprid in salmon farming - hopefully means that the use of Imidacloprid is now dead in the water at least in terms of the European market for pharmed salmon.
Anti-salmon farming activist Don Staniford said the EU’s opposition to imidacloprid “effectively kills any use of BMK08 by companies such as Mowi in Scotland as Europe is such a key market for Scottish salmon” @salmonfarming1 @WeAreBenchmark @FerdOwner https://t.co/VFynHTLqY1
— Don Staniford (@TheGAAIA) June 10, 2021
The European Parliament's resolution against an MRL (Maximum Residue Limit) for Imdacloprid in farmed salmon (10 July 2021) cited scientific studies detailing toxic impacts - including:
Grace O'Sullivan MEP: "The companies behind the use of Imidacloprid must come clean & share publicly any environmental risk assessments. The solution to toxic chemical pollution is not dilution" https://t.co/fzG3MLUIBS @scotgov @FOIScotland @SSPOsays @MairiMcAllan @ScottishEPA pic.twitter.com/PmnIhRGetn

Maybe the Scottish Government and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency will listen to the science and ban the use of Imidacloprid in 'Scottish' salmon farming before the backlash against Scottish pharmed salmon blows the toxic industry out of the water?
