Big thanks Captain! @CaptPaulWatson pic.twitter.com/XOH0b3PqUf
I've not won an award in a while - even though award-winning food writer Joanna Blythman spookily suggested I deserved a medal in her Herald newspaper column on Saturday (24 April 2021) - so it was thrilling to receive a medal in the post yesterday from Captain Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society!
Writing in The Herald newspaper on Saturday (24 April 2021), food critic and author Joanna Blythman (no stranger herself to awards and prizes) displayed her inner Doris Stokes (for younger readers - she was a clairvoyant).
As it happens the medal was already in the post and will be worn proudly when I travel to Scotland next month for 'Operation Scottish Scamon'.
Here's a video showing the medal ceremony.
And one with the kids who were blatantly bribed with 'Star Wars'!
Captain Paul Watson and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society feature in Netflix's global smash 'Seaspiracy' - along with disease-ridden salmon farming in Scotland (as sponsored by RSPCA Assured and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council).

Watch Seaspiracy online via Netflix - here's the trailer:
Sea Shepherd's 'Operation Virus Hunter' has lifted the lid on welfare abuse inside salmon farms in British Columbia.
Captain Paul Watson, along with other Sea Shepherd supporters such as Martin Sheen, Pamela Anderson and Rod Marining have taken the pledge not to eat farmed salmon. Please join the global boycott!

The last time I won a prize (apart from inside a Kinder egg) was in 2005 when the book - "A Stain Upon the Sea" - I co-authored with Alexandra Morton, Stephen Hume and others won the Roderick Haig Brown Award at the BC Books Awards (it was also shortlisted for the George Ryga Award for Social Awareness in Literature - beaten by Robert Hunter's book 'The Greenpeace to Amchitka: An Environmental Odyssey').
In 2002, I won the Andrew Lees Memorial Award at the British Environment & Media Awards (long before social media). The awards ceremony was at a swanky place on the banks of the River Thames in London and all I remember - apart from thanking Old Trout (aka Bruce Sandison) of Private Eye - was walking through the audience to the rousing tune of 'Simply the Best' by Tina Turner to collect my award from impressionist Alistair Mcgowan. The trade newspaper Intrafish reported that I was a "crusader" (long before I became an "extreme activist"):

We're still hoping to fund a documentary on 'Scottish Scamon'.
And if you can please show your support by making a video pledge not to eat farmed salmon!

A big thanks to Captain Paul Watson who is not afraid to speak the truth to power and is prepared to stand up to protect our global oceans.
As Captain Paul Watson told Intrafish in 2019: "We can and will stop it. Our objective is to shut them down"
