Fly Fishing & Fly Tying reported (30 October 2020):
Scottish Sea Farms replied via Twitter:
1. We’re devastated to be experiencing a fish health challenge of the nature we’re seeing at Creran, Don - a situation that simply isn’t acceptable to us - and we’ve been working closely with veterinary professionals to remove the affected fish.
— Scottish Sea Farms (@scotseafarms) October 31, 2020
2. Until end Sep, crop survival (96%) and performance were strong. In early Oct, the farm was hit by an algal bloom, compromising gill health. As a direct result of the bloom and seasonal high seawater temps, sea lice levels escalated, prompting the decision to remove the fish.
— Scottish Sea Farms (@scotseafarms) October 31, 2020
3. As with all farming sectors, the environment in which we farm is ever-changing and events like these provide further impetus to continue our investment and work to research the most effective solutions.

There must have been a lot killed by the thermolicer and chemicals too. Here's a reminder of what has been happening this month. https://t.co/ShloRU0c6b

Scottish Sea Farms is certified as welfare-friendly by RSPCA Assured who rake in over half a million pounds per year by accrediting salmon farms in Scotland.
Marks & Spencers source 'Lochmuir' salmon from Scottish Sea Farms:

Scottish Sea Farms has been experiencing disease and lice problems in Loch Creran - a 'Special Area of Conservation' and 'Marine Protected Area' - for months.
I'm afraid there's a sequel to the earlier Loch Creran video.

In July 2020, Police Scotland wrongly warned Matt Mellen of Ecohustler from diving near the Loch Creran salmon farm operated by Scottish Sea Farms.

In February 2020, Scottish Salmon Watch reported on mass mortalities at RSPCA Assured Scottish Sea Farms in Loch Spelve.
Does the RSPCA still certify Loch Spelve? @rspcaassured @scotseafarms A 6% survival rate is truly shocking - out of 382,344 salmon stocked in the farm only 24,000 were harvested! How can the RSPCA condone such cruelty & suffering? @RSPCA_Frontline @RSPCA_official @RSPCAChris https://t.co/nAUVPrV1oQ
