"Mowi's disease-ridden salmon farms are dead in the water in Scotland with 8,000 tonnes less production forecast in 2020," commented Don Staniford, Director of Scottish Salmon Watch. "Lice infestations, Cardiomyopathy Syndrome, Pancreas Disease and Pasteurella Skyensis are plaguing Mowi's Scottish operations. The horror story that is Mowi features mass escapes, mass mortalities and ongoing welfare abuse."
Mowi's Q2 2020 financial results presented in Norway today (26 August 2020) make grim reading for Scotland even though last week's mass escape of 49,000 fish and 31,000 mortalities in Kilbrannan Sound will not be accounted for until Q3 2020.
BBC Scotland's Business correspondent Douglas Fraser Tweeted (26 August 2020):

The welfare nightmare of Mowi's salmon farms should have consumers reaching for the sick bag not their shopping bag.
Why does @rspcaassured certify 70% of Scottish salmon farms as welfare-friendly when there is systemic suffering & abuse? @RSPCA_official @RSPCA_Frontline @AnimalLawCon @Animal_Alliance @animalpharm @AnimalEquality @AnimalAid @media_ciwf @PETAUK @HSIUKorg https://t.co/ZuzAis8gEr pic.twitter.com/1rWDdk5Hsc

Here's shocking images taken by the Scottish Government's Fish Health Inspectorate when they have visited RSPCA Assured Mowi salmon farms:
In February 2020, Scottish Salmon Watch published a dossier of photos of diseased and deformed Scottish salmon - including many farmed by Mowi and certified via RSPCA Assured:
Mowi is shamefully endorsed and supported by Scottish Ministers such as Fergus Ewing and Kate Forbes who gorge themselves on Mowi salmon.

Mowi is owned/controlled by Norway's richest man John Fredriksen (dubbed 'The Viking Raider' by Forbes) who recently featured at #20 on The Sunday Times 2020 'Rich List' worth £6.63 billion and is #141 on the Forbes billionaires list worth $10.1 billion (he lives as a tax exile in Cyprus but also lives in London in a £100 house in Chelsea):
Fredriksen's billions have been made on the back of shipping as well as salmon farming.

This is the ugly face of Mowi salmon.
So next time you're in the supermarket - whether it is Sainsbury's, Lidl or Aldi - please steer clear of RSPCA Assured and "organic" Scottish salmon!
