Anyone for fresh Scottish salmon straight from the loch? Here's some mouth-watering nay award-winning salmon farmed by The Scottish Salmon Company at Maaey (East of Loch Uiskevagh) in the Outer Hebrides (the photos were published on 15 October by the Scottish Government's Fish Health Inspectorate).
These shocking images show how far the 'King of Fish' has sunk since the advent of factory fish farming. Bakkafrost - the new Faroese owners of The Scottish Salmon Company - will have a challenging job marketing this salmon as 'Superior'.
The Scottish Government's Fish Health Inspectorate conducted an unannounced inspection in June 2019 following a tip-off from a whistleblower but the report including photos was only published on 15 October 2019. The report detailed 48,500 mortalities in just one week in May 2019 "attributed to Pancreas Disease, exacerbated by handling during treatments":
The Fish Health Inspectorate report detailed moribund, anorexic and haemorrhaging fish with laboratory testing revealing cardiomyopathy, Salmonid Alphavirus (the causative agent of Pancreas Disease), Aeromonas sp and Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis virus.
The Scottish Government's Fish Health Inspectorate also publish mortality data which reveals that The Scottish Salmon Company's Maaey salmon farm topped the league of death during 2019 (with six entries in the Top 20 including the four highest mortality event reports and a total thus far during 2019 of 231,810 dead fish attributed to Pancreas Disease, post-transfer and physical damage):
Here's some more freshly sampled fish from The Scottish Salmon Company's salmon farm at nearby Maragay Mor in June 2019. The photos were slipped out just this week on 15 October 2019 by the Scottish Government's Fish Health Inspectorate:
If I'm not very much mistaken this farmed salmon from The Scottish Salmon Company is so fresh it is marked with a capital 'F'.
This salmon would struggle to make the cut for The Scottish Salmon Company's 'Native Hebridean Salmon'.
And this salmon's luscious red lips may well rule it out from The Scottish Salmon Company's "responsibly sourced" 'Tartan Salmon'.
The lovely pink pattern on its tail may be attractive to some but French chefs may struggle to flog it via le magnifique Label Rouge label.
The Fish Health Inspectorate laboratory report dated July 2019 detailed internal and external haemorrhaging at The Scottish Salmon Company's Maragay Mor salmon farm in the Outer Hebrides:
This fish is so fresh from the farm that it has lice still attached to it.
In fact, the Fish Health Inspectorate report detailed high lice loads on all five fish sampled.
Laboratory testing by the Fish Health Inspectorate reported Aeromonas sp and positive tests for Salmonid alphavirus and Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis virus:
Mortality data published by the Scottish Government's Fish Health Inspectorate reveals that The Scottish Salmon Company's Maragay Mor salmon farm has officially reported 41,892 dead farmed salmon thus far during 2019 (data up to September) attributed to Pancreas Disease and post treatment.
Mortalities from The Scottish Salmon Company's Maragay Mor and Maaey salmon farms are disposed of via Whiteshore Cockles in a controversial mort pit.

If job applicants have any concerns, then they should remember that The Scottish Salmon Company (written with a straight face and without a hint of irony) "are committed to the highest standards of animal husbandry" and "have a team of highly motivated and professional veterinarians and biologists who take the welfare of the stock under their care extremely seriously".
The Scottish Salmon Company is more coy about divulging photos of their disease-ridden operations. In 2018, lawyers acting on behalf of The Scottish Salmon Company (TSSC) threatened legal action if the Scottish Government disclosed damning photos of disease-ridden farmed salmon.
