Samples of untreated sewage effluent taken by Scottish Salmon Watch at Mowi salmon farms at Port Na Cro and Poll Na Gille around the Island of Shuna near Craobh Haven were denied entry to the Scottish Parliament who deemed it a "biosecurity risk".
Scottish Salmon Watch sent the samples to Marine Scotland Science in Aberdeen.

Shamefully, Marine Scotland Science (who Scottish Salmon Watch mailed samples of waste effluent to) do not even test for pathogens (even though Marine Scotland Science have detected the highly contagious Piscine Reovirus in over 50% of farmed salmon samples tested):

Dear Mr Staniford,
The testing of water and effluent for the presence of pathogens is not a service which Marine Scotland Science currently offer.
Upon receipt of the water samples, Marine Scotland Science can either dispose of them in a biosecure manner, or return them to you.
I would be obliged if you could advise me accordingly.
Your sincerely,
Charles Allan.

Please note that two samples of waste effluent collected from near Mowi salmon farms have been mailed to Marine Scotland Science in Aberdeen.
They were collected from close to the salmon farm at Port Na Cro and Poll Na Gille on 1 September.
Please confirm receipt.
Could you please test the samples for infectious diseases, pathogens and viruses?
