The New Democratic Party (NDP) in British Columbia should stop talking shite on salmon farming! That's the message from voters in North Island who want the NDP's incumbent MLA Claire Trevena to come out strongly and publicly against disease-ridden salmon farms.
The NDP's silence on the salmon farming issue speaks volumes and serves only to endorse the Norwegian-owned filthy feedlots spreading infectious diseases and viruses throughout British Columbia.
During a visit to salmon farms in the Wild Salmon Narrows yesterday (21 April), the reluctance of the NDP to commit to a policy of removing salmon farms was a topic of heated conversation. "Why are the NDP so silent on the salmon farming issue?" asked Quadra Island resident Angela Koch. "Why would the NDP continue to support such a filthy industry?"
"Why doesn't the NDP come out against the disease-ridden feedlots operating here in the Wild Salmon Narrows," continued Koch as she scratched her head.
Claire Trevena MLA advocates in her election platform "change for the better, one practical step at a time" but refuses to stand up for wild salmon against the disease-ridden salmon farming industry.
In fact, the English-born NDP North Island MLA for the upcoming provincial election stands for Norwegian-owned farmed salmon not BC wild salmon. In the BC Salmon Farmers Association's 2009 annual report, Claire Trevena gives her glowing support for salmon farming:

In 2008, Claire Trevena MLA visited Marine Harvest's disease-ridden salmon farming operations.
A vote for the NDP in North Island is a vote for salmon farming - here's Claire happily posing with a disease-ridden farmed salmon at a Marine Harvest site in Sayward!
If the NDP were really serious about "change for the better" then one first practical step would be to remove salmon feedlots immediately.
Sadly, a vote for the NDP in North Island is a vote for disease-ridden salmon farming!
The NDP's pro-salmon position is all the more alarming given the contaminated wastes being discharged by Marine Harvest, Cermaq (Mainstream) and Grieg - the three Norwegian-owned corporations which control over 90% of BC salmon farming. During yesterday's visit, a 'pooper-scooper' was sent down under Marine Harvest's salmon farm at Cyrus Rocks off Quadra Island. What a load of salmon shit!
Why would the NDP stand up for this crap?
The NDP's Jack Layton will be turning in his grave at the NDP's continued support for such a filthy and morally bankrupt industry.
"I think the long-term decline that we’ve seen, the growth of fish farming that we’ve seen, is something that’s of very, very grave concern," said Layton in 2010. "So this is a high priority for us."

Sadly, Layton's legacy of healthy wild salmon has been discarded by Adrian Dix's NDP in British Columbia - along with the mountains of contaminated wastes under salmon farm. The NDP's silence on salmon farms has spawned a Facebook event page: "Will Dix Nix Salmon Feedlots?"
