The piscatorial Oscars take place tomorrow night in Salmon River - here's a sneak preview of the salmon champions in the running for a prestigious 'Sockeye'. Hot favourite to reel in 'Best Picture' is Twyla Roscovich's 'Salmon Confidential' whilst Silver Donald Cameron's 'Salmon Wars' looks nailed on to lift the 'Best Documentary' prize. 'Hazardous Norwegian Salmon Dinner', a tasty offering from the Green Warriors of Norway, could round off a bad evening for Norwegian farmed salmon.
It could be a night to remember for Twyla Roscovich (who could double up with 'Best Director') and Kurt Oddekalv of the Green Warriors and Alexandra Morton of Salmon Are Sacred.
In the hunt for 'Best Artist' and 'Best Costume Drama' are Jay Peachy, Leanne Hodges and Anissa Reed.
Other nominees include Elena Edwards of Wild Salmon First, Kurt Beardslee of Wild Fish Conservancy and Sabra Woodworth (the latter appears a lock in the 'Best Supporting Activist' category).
The Sockeyes are a prelude to next month's 'Scamons' to be held in Norway where there is stiff competition from some of aquaculture's heavy hitters.
Later this evening, the 14th Annual BC Aquaculture Achievement Awards take place in Campbell River. Nominees include a smorgasbord of Norwegian-owned salmon farming companies:
