The Aquaculture Academy proudly presents the 1st Aquaculture Awards - The Scamons and Sockeyes 2013 (the piscatorial Oscars and Razzies)!
Nominations are officially announced on Oscar night (24th February)! Who are the big fish in the running for a Scamon - the King of Norway, John Fredriksen of Marine Harvest or Jon Hindar of Cermaq?
Who will reel in the coveted Best Picture Award? Will 'Salmon Farming In Norway' (the sequel to the Oscar-nominated 'Salmon Fishing in the Yemen') land the big one?
Or will 'The Scammin' Salmon' (the sequel to the decidedly fishy 'The Slammin' Salmon') scoop a Scamon for their all-star salmon farming cast of farmed salmon stooges including the Norwegian Prime Minister, Norway's Minister of Fisheries, Norway's Minister of Trade & Industry, John Fredriksen and the King of Norway?
Or will a dark salmon emerge out of the shadows in the shape of the foreign film 'Salmon Hunter' (the sequel to the Norwegian cult classic 'Troll Hunter')?
Or will the side-splitting new documentary from Marine Harvest - a sequel to Morgan Spurlock's 'Super-Size Me' film on McDonald's - be irresistable to the panel of judges?
Or will the judges plump for a new film exposing finger lickin' bad Norwegian farmed salmon (with the King of Norway's secret recipe)?
Who will scoop the Industry News Coverage of Year Award at The Sockeyes?
And who are the salmon heroes to be honoured at The Sockeyes? Will Twyla Roscovich, Kurt Oddekalv and Alexandra Morton leap like a wild salmon with joy come awards night?
Will cartoonist Adrian Raeside hit the mark with his sick sense of humour (perfect for depicting the salmon farming industry)?
The Aquaculture Awards will be presented in Bergen, Norway, on 7th March. Watch this space for more breaking news, gossip from the murky world of salmon farming and sneak previews of The Scamons & Sockeyes! The aquaculture industry is waiting with baited bad breath.
In view of all the salmon scams it promises to be a hell of a long night!
There will be more crocodile tears than an Oscar acceptance speech by Gwyneth Paltrow.
Please note that the Aquaculture Academy's 'Aquaculture Awards' should be confused with the 'Excellence in Aquaculture Awards' to held in Bergen on 7th/8th March.
Staff at Marine Harvest Norway, Marine Harvest Canada, Scottish Sea Farms and SalMar look set to steal the show!
And also watch out for the BC Aquaculture Achievement Awards sponsored by Positive Aquaculture Awareness to be held in Campbell River, British Columbia, on Saturday (23rd February).
Marine Harvest and Mainstream (Cermaq) look to have the 'Environment' Award in the sick-bag already - read the nominees in full online here
Watch out for more aquaculture awards later this year via the Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards to be held in June 2013.
And if you're feeling low, just give yourself an award. It's so easy and you'll feel so much better!
Best fishes - and see you in Norway next month!
